Morawaka Estate was established originally as a rubber plantation, and converted to tea around 1908. The founder was Mr. G.D. Jayasundara. The factory was built in 1935. The Plantation has remained in the family since the very beginning.
At present the estate is of 160 acres in extent and comprises of a tea manufacturing factory with a capacity to produce about 10,000 kg of green leaf a day. This converts to about 60,000 kg of made tea a month. We are proud to say that since the 1970s we have been producing the best teas in the Low Grown category and continue to do so…
Recently we went into a partnership with the American Company, Kensington Investment Company of Boston. We have grand plans for Eco lodges, and other Eco tourism ventures with these new investors.
